Don’t be fooled by the innocent veneer, beneath the candy treat exterior of Nicoletta Ceccoli’s work is a sweet, sweet poison. Reminiscent of the Brother’s Grimm, whose children’s tales were fraught with dark undercurrents, so cleverly hidden that you only begin to understand the danger when a little of life has been put behind you, and the deeper you go down the rabbit hole, the more darkness you see. It’s a little bit naughty and a little perilous, covered in sugar and served up as something so divine you just have to have it. Nicoletta’s soft pastel colours are the perfect saccharine coating for her deliciously devilish concepts of little girls in silver bells eating away at the gingerbread safety of nursery rhymes and playtime.
