Read all about it

Today I’ve been checking out the awesome editorial illustrations of Tim Bower. Tim became a commercial artist at the age of 10, and since then has been drawing up a storm for clients such as Time, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Harper’s, Esquire, GQ, Scientific American, Rolling Stone, Playboy and an almost neverending list of prestigious reads.

Day of the Doctor

Growing up, Dr Who was a staple of my evening viewing, despite the nightmares some of the episodes would give me! Tom Baker was the quintessential Doctor for my generation (1976ers), but with the reload of Dr Who in 2005 the series was back better than ever grabbing hold of the imaginations of a new audience with both hands and squishing their brain into a whole new groove of sic-fi awesome. Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith made me fall in love with Dr Who all over again, and coming up is a very special event celebrating 50 years of Tardis time and space travel. On the 23 November (UK time) the BBC will simulcast globally to 75 countries (Sunday morning 24 November for us here in Australia) a very special film – Day of The Doctor. Put it in you calendar or be exterminated!

Day of the Doctor

A day in the life

What if we could chronicle a Super Hero’s life from cradle to grave? The highs, lows, cheeky moments, perils, victories? How would their clothing work with their ageing bodies? Could they still stop bad guys despite a wrinkled brow? The Swedish born artist Andreas Englund has envisaged just that with this amazing series, following our Hero as he heads out on his first mission, through his prime years and then finally we see our Hero as he progresses into the sunset of his years. So wonderful!

Shiny bones

Kaitlin Beckett has a knack for painting skeletal creatures with shiny bones and mechanized animals that would be right at home in an apocalyptic battle-type situation. From her steampunk-like insects to battle-tank rams, I just love her amazing style. Ink and paint, gold leaf and crazy details combine to be something that is instantly recognizable as Kaitlin’s style.

We were sold the minute we saw a fox in a suit, but then our eyeballs were hit with a bear at a desk with a kitty underneath and forget about it – we were gone!!

In the Summertime

It must be summer. I’m obsessed with images of water, the beach, sand and good times. The beer weather is here and it’s at times like this I am just so Thankful to live in Australia. Mark Tipple is another Australian whose work has captured our attention of late. This Sydney based photographer’s amazing underwater series personifies our wonderful beaches in the summer. Love it!
