Last weekend we happened to be at a Mexican themed party. There were lots of Cholas and even two Freida Khalos, but what stole the night for me were these Tequila jellies. As you can see they are shaped like watermelon slices. Too cool – and it got me thinking, what with Summer on the way – how on Earth could I make these myself… and if you happen to be curious too I’ve found two recipes for you – one for straight up jelly shots and another that tells you how to make the watermelon looking slices. Bottoms up!
• 3 oz. package of falvoured jelly crystals (lime or orange works nicely)
• Cup of boiling water
• Cup of chilled tequila (mmm!)
• Table spoon of grenadine syrup
As usual: mix water and jelly crystals until dissolved. Let it cool and then add tequila and grenadine. Stir. Put in little cups, and place in fridge to set.
Now these ones say Orange but get creative and you can make just about anything!
Orange Slice Tequila jellies
2 x oranges
1 pkg orange-flavored jelly crystals
1/2 cup Tequila
Directions: Slice oranges in half. Using a spoon, scoop out all the flesh and divider pith. In a medium bowl, add jelly crystals and 1/2 cup boiling water. When jelly crystals have dissolved, add tequila. Pour liquid jelly into orange halves. Refrigerate for approximately 4 hours, or until firm. To serve, slice each half into 3 wedges.
